Just finished watching Bournemouth dismantle Fulham, one with a progressive manager and one like Everton with a reliable steady manager like David Moyes.

I am not aware of who Bournemouth have played before and I realize that they lost a couple of their better players from last season, but they are now in 2nd place. Did they sign Kluivert or was he with them last season?

Bournmouth, who I think have limited resources financially, seem to do well every season. Is this because of their manager getting the best of what he has? Or is it his backroom finding the type of players that he wants?

Robert Tressell

Bill,

Bournemouth have been much much richer than us in recent seasons. They have done well by outspending us by some margin.

Martin Farrington

Meanwhile at Elland Road, in between a game of who can miss the most sitters, Tottenham score a spawny deflection goal.

Ooo... Calvert-Lewin, having missed a chance, is now limping... call the glass-blowers to fix him!

Liam Mogan
5 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:00:33
"Calvert-Lewin has had a lot of chances already this season and missed them -- I think he's just got to get into his stride." -- TNT commentator.

Missing chances is his stride.

Looks like he's injured again.

John Charles
6 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:02:39
Calvert-Lewin is injured again -- the song rings out.

Hilarious.

John Charles
7 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:05:13
Nice touch by Calvert-Lewin.
Liam Mogan
8 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:06:44
Yes, it was, Charles, got to give him his due there.
Martin Farrington
9 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:06:55
Indeed it was, John.
Martin Farrington
10 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:15:17
Amateur dramatics aplenty here. Players doing three rolls and slapping the ground for further effect.

Leeds equalised despite the best efforts of a blow up balls attempt to clear it off the line.

Martin Farrington
11 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:20:58
Half-time: Leeds 1 - 1 Spurs

An okay game.

Liam Mogan
12 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:22:56
Anyone else noticed that in this game and last night's at Bournemouth that refs seem to be letting a lot more challenges go?

The games are seemingly flowing more to my eye?

Danny O'Neill
14 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:26:34
Calvert-Lewin is what he is. The type of more traditional target man who plays a certain role.

He's at the age now where he's unlikely to get any better, but could be a good signing for Leeds.

Andy Crooks
15 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:38:02
Any player who elaborates on his cheating by slapping the ground in feigned distress should be tasered by the fourth official.

The official does something useful and the cheat gets to slap the ground in real agony. What's not to like?

Liam Mogan
16 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:41:00
The number of times Calvert-Lewin hits the keeper is astonishing really.

No doubt he'll score the winner though!

Liam Mogan
17 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:50:04
That's what you need your wingers to do - fast, direct and not allow defenders to settle.

Instead of constantly faking, slowing down or turning round

Kevin Molloy
18 Posted 04/10/2025 at 13:57:06
I'm sure the goalies are all advised when coming up against Calvert-Lewin:

"Don't try and move, stay absolutely still.
He'll find you!"

Christy Ring
19 Posted 04/10/2025 at 14:40:32
Calvert-Lewin set up Piroe in the last minute with a great header, the keeper made one great save from him as well

You can criticise Calvert-Lewin for the chances he misses, but our strikers aren't even making chances!

Liam Mogan
20 Posted 04/10/2025 at 14:45:13
He had a decent game, to be fair, Christy. Looked a lot more interested than he did in his last season at Everton. His weakness in front of goal is still clear though.

I also think any forward would struggle to get chances the way we are currently set up. It's far too slow and predictable.

Allen Rodgers
21 Posted 04/10/2025 at 15:54:53
What a surprise, no penalty for Sunderland at Man Utd!
Mark Murphy
22 Posted 04/10/2025 at 16:26:04
Bournemouth won against a good side last night.

Iraola for Everton, 2026-27, anyone?

Kevin Molloy
23 Posted 04/10/2025 at 16:31:39
Everton is one of the toughest jobs, Mark. I'm sure his agent can get him a cushier number than here.

He's just about the hottest ticket around at the moment.

Billy Shears
24 Posted 04/10/2025 at 16:37:45
There's always a "Stealth team"... maybe Bournemouth this season?

Liam Mogan
25 Posted 04/10/2025 at 16:43:00
I really enjoyed the Bournemouth - Fulham game last night.

Bournemouth lost £200M worth of players in the summer, but Iraola was still convinced he could win that game and was proactive in trying to do so.

Allen Rodgers
26 Posted 04/10/2025 at 16:56:16
Bournemouth must have a great scouting team. They buy players cheaply like Semenyo for £10M and they turn into matchwinners.

They raked in £200M in the summer too. All this with a small stadium and gates at League One level. Impressive.

Dave Abrahams
27 Posted 04/10/2025 at 16:57:26
Watching Bowen of West Ham Utd...

Is he too old to get a move to a top club? — A move he deserves.

Kunal Desai
28 Posted 04/10/2025 at 17:02:09
Don't be surprised if Iraola takes over from Pep at the end of the season.

We need to be identifying the next Glasner and Iraola next summer. It's what a forward-thinking club does -- succession planning.

Liam Mogan
29 Posted 04/10/2025 at 17:11:22
Iraola looks like a manager who trusts his players, especially the attacking ones.

Moyes has always appeared distrustful of players to me, especially those whose first instinct is to try to create.

Robert Tressell
30 Posted 04/10/2025 at 17:21:49
Just for the usual perspective, in the period since Moshiri pulled the plug on us - our spending compared to Bournemouth has looked like this:

Total Xxpenditure:

- Bournemouth: €511.03M
- Everton: €343.02M

Net Spend:

- Bournemouth: €-178.14M
- Everton: €-13.87M

Iraola has done a great job at Bournemouth -- even more so after selling Kerkez, Zabarnyi and Huijsen to the RS, PSG and Real Madrid this summer -- but he's not been short of money either.

I don't think Iraola could turn up at Everton tomorrow and get us playing like Bournemouth. We all know we need another round of spending to fix a few glaring issues with the squad.

By then, Iraola might be installed as the new Man Utd manager.

Liam Mogan
31 Posted 04/10/2025 at 17:24:09
Just one round of spending, Robert?
Robert Tressell
32 Posted 04/10/2025 at 17:27:46
Dave #27, Bowen's age is part of the issue.

At 28 going on 29, he'd have plenty of offers from Champions League clubs on a free or reduced price with a year left on his contract. But he's contracted to WHU until 2030 and would probably cost at least the circa £70M Man Utd paid for Mbeumo.

I can't see anyone paying that for a player his age (apart from possibly a Saudi club).

Sam Hoare
33 Posted 04/10/2025 at 17:29:58
I think it's about having the next Iraola lined up for whenever Moyes hits the glass ceiling or TFG lose patience with him.

Plenty of good young managers out there but most of them would need a little patience; neither Glasner nor Iraola hit the ground running. And as Robert says, they would need the right sort of players to play their football too.

Robert Tressell
34 Posted 04/10/2025 at 17:30:08
To fix the glaring issues at full-back, yes, Liam.

To get the squad into Champions League contender shape (which is what I expect of the club) it will probably take about 4 or 5 rounds of spending.

Billy Shears
35 Posted 04/10/2025 at 17:31:22
So The Gooners go top...

Let's hope they can keep the Devil's team at bay!

Liam Mogan
36 Posted 04/10/2025 at 17:38:31
I think it would probably take 4/5 rounds of consistently excellent spending to get us challenging for the Champions League places.

Buying players has been our Achilles Heel. It's hard to have faith in our ability to do so, new regime or not.

I put the Liverpool game on and saw they were getting beat so I switched it right off -- those bastards always score when I put it on.

They are getting beat, I'll leave it off ‘til I'm going out when the game should be over. Going to an 80th birthday party where there will be plenty of both fans attending and most of them genuine people so I'll keep my smile to myself if those Blue Boys win!

Martin Farrington
41 Posted 04/10/2025 at 18:52:19
Ha ha Dave.

I occasionally had to go to Anfield back in the day. 3 times. They got beat each time. However, when I went to the derbies, we always got humbled.

Missed first half but 2nd half, Chelsea are terrible. And there it is. Was coming. Twats.

No way the London Russo-USA are gonna win...

Martin Farrington
42 Posted 04/10/2025 at 18:56:05
RNS have devil's luck. Bloke miscontrols it and it falls to the only RNS in the 6-yard box.

Thankfully Salad is playing rugby. That's three he has put over the stand from 10 yards or so.

Loving the consistency. Three defeats in a week and two last gasp goals conceded.

Good stuff, keep up the lovely work RS.

Arsy Arne gets ready with the excuses:

Wrong type of wind!
3 minutes injury time should have been played. Kerkez is crap!
Isak should have scored!
Salah hates me!!
We never win when the refs not the one we wanted!
Virgil didn't want his hair disturbed!!
The goal scorer of the winner should have been home in bed. Far too young to be out this late!
Chelsea didn't lie down!
I have to pick Konate!
We did beat Everton!

Paul Hewitt
56 Posted 04/10/2025 at 20:38:38
I don't get the celebration when the RS lose. They will probably still win the league.

I know loads of RS fans and they don't give a stuff about us. Seems we ain't the same. Don't get it.

Sam Hoare
57 Posted 04/10/2025 at 20:39:06
Not Premier League but apparently Harrison Armstrong was great for Preston again today. As much as we could probably use him, I'm really pleased he's on loan.

If he can be a mainstay and one of the best central midfielder in the Championship for a promotion-chasing team, it will really give him the chance to grow as a player.

He can develop the confidence and composure that should hopefully see him step straight into our first team next season (or even in January) as the next Adam Wharton.

Tom Bowers
58 Posted 04/10/2025 at 20:49:29
Funny old game isn't it. What comes around goes around.

RS steal the points in several games with late winners and now they know what it's like having lost two themselves in injury time. So sad!!!!

Mark Murphy
59 Posted 04/10/2025 at 21:30:44
Paul @56.

I'm from your town. But we are light-years apart. Are you serious?

My schadenfreude dream is we get relegated but them cunts go down the place below us. Kopites are gobshites! Cunts the lot of them!

Robert Tressell
60 Posted 04/10/2025 at 21:31:05
That's good news, Sam.

It's a shame we never managed to get the first Adam Wharton, but I'll be delighted if Armstrong could be the next one.

Derek Thomas
65 Posted 04/10/2025 at 22:52:34
Slot has had his "Martinez's first season on the back of his predecessors squad."

Now he has to (re)build his own team... as somebody said - £114M for a German Tom Cleverley!

Not quite 'Sacked in the Morning' time yet, but long may the poor run continue.

Don Alexander
67 Posted 04/10/2025 at 23:58:24
Armstrong at Preston seems to be doing well, hopefully adding to his game what Coleman managed at Blackpool. Here's hoping.

Harry Tyrer had a good season in goal at a mediocre Blackpool last season and I hope he too comes good. Blackpool miss him.

Scott Hamilton
68 Posted 05/10/2025 at 00:12:58
Derek (65) - Yeah, I was thinking of Martinez when I saw today's result.

Won the league last season based on his approach plus muscle memory. Now the latter has gone, he's responsible for the outcome. Fingers crossed they're the new Man Utd.

Anyway, looking forward to a decent pint at The Denbigh Castle tomorrow followed by watching us derailing the Crystal Palace locomotive at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Grealish to get his first goal.

UTFT!!!!

Mark Murphy
71 Posted 05/10/2025 at 23:52:41
We were in for Woltemade and settled for Barry.

That was a big mistake in my opinion.

Geoff Trenner
72 Posted 06/10/2025 at 10:44:02
From a Leeds fan in The Guardian this morning:

‘Spurs got away with the points from Elland Road courtesy of woeful finishing from Calvert-Lewin. If Leeds persist with DCL then they will be enjoying trips to Norwich next season. Equally if Jack Harrison continues to warm the bench, then they are not going to survive.'

Ho hum...

Bill Gall

Forest sack their manager, who will be next. S.Dyche ?
